I have to admit, one of the guys I’ll really miss here at The Free Press is Jon Dawson. He’s really an amazing character.
Here’s a look back at his life.

Jon had a humble start to life before making it big on the NBC teenage series “Saved By the Bell” as the quirky Screech Powers:

Later, he moved on to bigger and better things, such as playing the memorable Horshack on “Welcome Back, Kotter:”

After television, passed him by. So he ventured into professional basketball, playing a few years in the fledgling ABA before hitting it big in the NBA. It was there he got his nickname Dr. J:

Finally, before becoming a journalist, Jon had a brief but productive career in the NFL, playing for the Carolina Panthers and earning the nickname “He Hate Me.” After knowing Jon, I can understand why he was called that:

Godspeed, Jon Dawson.

    Dear Charlie,

I too have known Jon for a while now, and I have watched his career (and his hair) blossom as he developed to the man he is now. I’m sure he will miss your presence and your insight as he continues to formulate new breakthroughs in music and Afro-Sheen.

    Sincerely,

    Correai

I hear Jon has to get a special fire permit for that hair from the NYFD for that gig he’s got coming up in August.
