I have long been a big fan of “Seinfeld,” and especially a fan of Richards, especially his performance on this show and others, most notably as the goofy janitor Stanley Spadowski in “UHF.” I can’t say I’m much of a fan now, especially after going off on this rant and his half-hearted apologies that followed. There’s simply no way anyone can explain this one away, and there’s definitely no way this could be misunderstood. There’s simply no excuse for this behavior. I will say that his hecklers shouldn’t get a pass … a ticket to any type of entertainment venue doesn’t give you the license or the right to act like a jackass. But as a performer, you have to be above the kind of response Richards gave.
